Definitely a praiseworthy feat attained by Squad Dangal. For the unknown, Dangal is the tale of wrestler-sisters Geeta Phogat, Babita Phogat and their coach dad, Mahavir Phogat.
On the Yahoo India list, Dangal is accompanied by Salman Khan-starrer Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Aamir Khan’s PK. Other movies that made it to the top 10 blockbusters of the decade comprise Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai, Dhoom 3, Sanju, War, Chennai Express and Dabangg.
Dangal, which also turned out to be an instant sensation amongst the Chinese audiences got named the 33rd movie in Chinese film to record one billion RMB. It remained at the second position at the Chinese BO after remaining on top for more than a fortnight just behind Pirates of the Caribbean 5 that now bookedthe number one position.
Prasad Shetty, partner of Strategic Alliance a Chinese firm promoting Indian films in China for the past few years stated, “It is still playing in about 9000 screens. Dangal’s success in China perhaps opens a Pandora’s Box for Indian cinema as successes in China’s box office means world’s highest revenue.”
Dangal also has a lot of other firsts to its credit: In 105 years of Indian cinema, no movie had ever crossed the Rs1000 crore ($156 million) mark but Dangal made record by earning Rs 2,000 crore mark at the worldwide box office.
Even Chinese chief Xi Jinping mentioned to Indian PM Narendra Modi that he liked the movie.
