‘Pagalpanti’ Movie Review: A Comedy Without Brain; Fails To Woo Audiences

Pagalpanti featuring John Abraham, Arshad Warsi, Anil Kapoor, Ileana D’Cruz, Pulkit Samrat, Kriti Kharbanda, Urvashi Rautela and Saurabh Shukla has reached the theaters today. The comedy movie is helmed by Anees Bazmee.

With the huge ensemble cast, the movie has huge expectations.

According to trade analyst Girish Johar, the movie could make Rs 9-10 crore on its first day.

The title assures a harum-scarum comedy and therefore, Anees Bazmee’s movie falls headlong into the plot.

Rajkishore (John Abraham) is a bad luck magnet who leaves a track of misfortune in his wake. Together with his associates Chandu (Arshad Warsi) and Chunky (Pulkit Samrat), Rajkishore builds up a debt that makes the three into the work of the criminals Raja (Saurabh Shukla) and Wifi (Anil Kapoor). In the meantime, a duo of rival under lords makes attempts to murder Raja and Wifi and keep failing.

The story, penned by a minor army of writers, isn’t excited as much as it is undeveloped. Every act is crowded with main and slight players – apart from the tour to England, the making aof the film also seems to have worked as an service guarantee scheme.

Amongst those who preserve their dignity are Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Arshad Warsi and Brijendra Kala. The remaining cast keep scrunching their faces and panicking about in an effort to respire life into a determination that is about as genuine as one of Nirav Modi’s schemes.

Previously, John Abraham stated, “I enjoy doing comedy films and it has worked for me as well. It is the toughest genre to make in the business, it is very difficult to make people laugh.”

John Abraham has worked in comedy flicks such as Garam Masala and Welcome Back but is mainly acknowledged as an action hero.

He added, “There is space for all kinds of film and I want to do all kinds of film. I have been dying to do a comedy. Films like Housefull 4, Total Dhamaal came with negative criticism but look at the numbers they have done. My point is families have enjoyed these films. And I want to do films that are enjoyed by the family audience. There will be criticism, one has to accept it and get on to the next film.”

Anil Kapoor is acknowledged for his witty charaters in movies such as No Entry and Welcome among more and comes back to amuse his viewers with Pagalpanti.

He earlier told media people, “An actor doing comedy must remember to always work with good co-actors, a director who has good comic sense, a writer who writes good comedy screenplay. Once you choose a script, you’ve to make sure that the character looks new.”
